My notes appear to be missing. What happened?

If some or all of your notes seem to have disappeared, don't worry — this usually means your device or browser hasn't finished downloading your notes yet.

How to check

Go to Settings > Offline & Sync and look for a message like "Content not downloaded". This means your local device or browser doesn't have a copy of all your notes yet.

How to fix it

In the Offline & Sync settings, trigger a re-download of your content. Once the download completes, all your notes should reappear.

Why does this happen?

There are a few common reasons your local content might be missing:

  • Browser storage was cleared: If you use Capacities in a browser, clearing your browser data, cookies, or cache can remove the locally stored notes.
  • Switching devices or browsers: Each device and browser maintains its own local copy of your notes. A new device or browser needs to download your content first.
  • OS reinstall or downgrade: Reinstalling or changing your operating system can reset browser or app storage.
  • Storage pressure: Your browser or device may have automatically freed up storage space used by Capacities.

In all of these cases, your notes remain safely stored on our servers and can be re-downloaded at any time.

Still having issues?

If your notes don't reappear after re-downloading, go to Settings > Offline & Sync and check whether the two boxes in the Sync section are green.

  • If both boxes are green: Your content is safely synced to our servers. Go to Settings > Account > Reboot to force a full resync.
  • If the boxes are not green: Do not reboot. Rebooting before your content is fully synced could result in data loss. Please contact us so we can investigate further.
